NOVEMBER 22nd 2009 COVERAGE

Sunday, November 22nd dawned cold, but the weather for the first day of launching after the launch site was harvested turned out to be perfect.  The tempeture was in the 50’s with little wind and what little we did have was blowing in the right direction (towards the mowed fields) no clouds, and the field was dry. About 15 NOTRA and Skybuster members showed up to fly along with about a dozen members of the Glenn NASA Space Explorers who came to launch their model rockets.

We set up the low power rack and two high-power pads and flew until about 3:30PM.  More than 40 high power rockets were flown from the new Aerotech H43’s to J540’s.

Jim Krall showed up with his new rocket trailer, which is about twice the size of the Skybusters trailer.  Time for us to think about getting something bigger!

As usual, the Hannas, (Josh and Mark) showed up with their big rockets, which really wowed the model rocket crowd from Glenn.  Everyone was impressed with the new Pro29 Skidmark motor flight.  One spectacular crash happened with their clustered H powered Gemini-Titan lifted off under only one motor, only to have the second motor fire right before impact.  None of the high-power rockets landed in the corn field stubble, for which all the flyers were grateful.  Hopefully the field conditions will remain the same for our next launch.

Everyone went away happy, and weather permitting, we plan on having another launch on December 6th.
